The materials testing laboratory at Reutlingen University focuses on yarn/twist testing and the testing of textile fabrics. Material testing is essential for textiles used for clothing as well as for technical or functional textiles. Material testing is an important part of product development and the monitoring of manufacturing processes. It is therefore an essential element in the interdisciplinary work of designers and technologists.
Depending on the study programme, the laboratory is used in the form of group internships, for individual project work, research work, Bachelor's and Master's theses.
Technical equipment
- Climate laboratory with standardised textile climate in accordance with ISO 139:2011-10 to ensure reproducibility and comparability of test results
- Measuring devices for determining yarn/twist specifications such as fineness, twist, strength and elongation behaviour, non-uniformities and yarn faults as well as abrasion, friction rating and hairiness
- Measuring devices for determining specifications of textile surfaces such as construction characteristics, behaviour against tensile stress and curvature behaviour as well as air permeability and behaviour against water
- Testing devices for determining the performance characteristics of textile surfaces such as abrasion and pilling behaviour, creasing behaviour and snagging
- Measuring devices for colour fastness testing (crockmeter and perspirometer)
- PC island for analysing test results and creating test reports and presentations
